Position overview
Are you passionate about quality, technical excellence, and making sure things just work? At allnex, we’re on the look out for a Quality Control Lab Technician to join our dynamic team in Wacol QLD to play a critical role in supporting the integrity, reliability, and efficiency of our 24/5 laboratory operations.
Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, this role serves as the key technical and functional escalation point for Quality Control operations, providing advanced analytical expertise, technical decision-making support, and operational guidance to QC shift teams. While the position does not carry direct people-management responsibility, it plays a significant leadership role in mentoring technicians, supporting investigations, driving laboratory best practices, and ensuring consistent quality and compliance standards across the operation.
This role also acts as a key interface between Quality Control, Production, Technical, and Quality Assurance functions, and may serve as the QC delegate in the absence of the QA Manager.
Responsibilities
As our Quality Control Laboratory Technician, you will play a key role in driving laboratory excellence and supporting manufacturing operations through advanced technical expertise and cross-functional collaboration.
Technical Leadership & Operational Support
- Provide technical decision support and escalation guidance for 24/5 QC laboratory operations.
- Act as the primary escalation point for non-routine, complex, or borderline analytical results.
- Review and verify testing outcomes to ensure compliance with quality specifications and laboratory procedures.
- Support laboratory operational continuity through troubleshooting and effective prioritization of testing activities.
Laboratory Testing & Quality Assurance
- Perform and oversee testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Conduct batch adjustments and support final QA verification testing prior to product release.
- Lead analytical troubleshooting, method robustness assessments, and laboratory problem-solving activities.
- Maintain laboratory equipment readiness, troubleshooting coordination, and calibration compliance.
Investigations & Continuous Improvement
- Lead QC participation in Out-of-Specification (OOS) investigations, deviations, root cause analysis, and CAPA activities.
- Support customer complaint investigations and provide technical analysis where required.
- Identify and drive opportunities for process optimization and laboratory continuous improvement initiatives.
Training & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide training, mentoring, and competency assessment support for QC Technicians.
- Serve as a key liaison between QC, Production, Technical, and QA teams to support manufacturing and quality objectives.
- Promote laboratory best practices, safety awareness, and compliance standards across the QC function.
- Act as QC delegate in the absence of the Quality Manager where required.
Required skills and experience
We are looking for a proactive and technically strong laboratory professional who brings both analytical expertise and operational leadership capability within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- 5+ years of experience in a Quality Control laboratory within lab or manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of quality systems, laboratory compliance standards, and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in handling deviations, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Proven ability to provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and mentoring within a shift-based laboratory environment.
- Strong understanding of analytical testing methods, laboratory instrumentation, and method troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions and manage priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across the teams.
- High attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation capabilities.
- Experience with ERP, or laboratory management systems, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:
- Completed Year 12 or higher, ideally with a Science or Engineering qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Grade 3 or equivalent under the current Wacol agreement.
