Position overview
allnex is on the lookout for an experienced Technical Manager to drive innovation and development of advanced binder technologies for battery applications at our technology center in Shanghai or Suzhou, China.
This role focuses on leading research and development efforts for polymer-based binders used in lithium-ion and next-generation batteries, ensuring technical excellence and successful commercialization.

Responsibilities
- Lead R&D for Battery Binders: Direct research programs focused on polymer binders for anode, cathode formulations, and all other areas for the use of binders and additives in battery systems ensuring alignment with market and customer requirements.
- Guide Technical Teams: Mentor chemists and engineers in polymer synthesis, formulation optimization, and performance evaluation for battery applications.
- New Business Development: Support business developers with technical knowhow, joining customer visits to capture market requirements or to ensure required technical information is shared to promote allnex solutions to the market.
- Scale-Up & Commercialization: Oversee successful transfer of binder technologies from lab-scale to pilot and mass production.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Provide technical support to production teams and engage with technology experts within and outside allnex. Collaborate with academia and research partners to accelerate development.
- Testing & Validation: Ensure rigorous testing of binder performance in electrochemical cells, including adhesion, conductivity, and cycle life.
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Technical Leadership: Represent the company in technical presentations, conferences, and customer training sessions.
Required skills and experience
- 10 years in polymer chemistry or battery materials development.
- Proven experience in binder technologies for lithium-ion or advanced batteries.
- At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Strong proficiency in English (written and spoken) and local language.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field (PhD preferred).
- Knowledge of electrochemical testing and battery performance metrics is a strong advantage.
