Position overview

We are seeking a Hazard Communication Specialist to provide technical expertise to allnex personnel and customers in the areas of worldwide hazard communication and transportation requirements. You will responsible for providing safety data sheets and labels to allnex business units and plants in a timely and cost efficient manner. You are also responsible for providing worldwide transportation classification for allnex materials and ensuring that this information is obtained and understood by the order processing, manufacturing, shipping and marketing functions of allnex.

Responsibilities

  • Support allnex businesses by conducting hazard (health, physical, and environmental) and regulatory assessments for allnex materials on a world-wide basis.
  • Be responsible for classifying products in accordance with world-wide regulations including transportation of Dangerous Goods, labeling, Commerce Control classifications like harmonized tariffs, ECCN, DEA, CWC as well as other local classifications such as SARA 313, NFPA, Japanese Fire Service Law, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to allnex personnel and customers in the areas of hazard and global regulatory requirements for our products, R&D/TS&D samples and purchased raw materials.
  • Participate in the development of company procedures and standards and provide training and expertise to internal customers.
  • Promote the safe and responsible use of allnex products by preparing Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product regulatory labeling for all regions. 
  • Prepare documents on or before needed by dates in order to meet customer needs.  
  • Help support and maintain the central Product Stewardship database system (Wercs).
  • Provide technical support for global chemical control law compliance by determining chemical inventory classifications and working with the PSRA regulatory compliance team.
  • Work with Plant and R&D product stewards to process, review, and approve their new product requests.  
  • Collaborate with the product stewards and the supply chain to manage and implement product regulatory knowledge.

Required skills and experience

  • 2 – 5 years of chemical or related industry experience in hazard assessment, SDS/label authoring and product regulatory compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of the OSHA Hazard Communication standard, Canadian WHMIS system, Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 on classification, labeling, and packaging of substances and mixtures, Workplace Australia, GHS, Commerce Control classifications and United Nations Transport of Dangerous Goods classification systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the use of database systems is crucial.
  • Good verbal and written English skills
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in chemistry, toxicology or environmental science is preferred.
