Position overview
We are excited to offer an entry-level opportunity for a Polymer Synthesis Chemist at our Louisville site. This role focuses on resin synthesis, scale-up, and production support, involving the formulation, testing, and evaluation of polymers and coatings. Additionally, this position will be the primary coordinator to other allnex manufacturing sites to coordinate support for new product introduction and quality issues.

Responsibilities
- New product development: Planning of synthesis experiments with some guidance from supervisor. Conducting own bench work in the lab synthesizing resins in laboratory glass apparatus, following preestablished procedures. Discussing and demonstrating understanding of chemical intent.
- Ensure that all projects are well documented and tracked in our stage gate innovation process and meeting defined stage gate timelines. Make timely reporting of progress and findings for all work performed in this position.
- Responsible for the successful scale-up of products from laboratory to production.
- Liaison with our allnex sites to coordinate technology owners with the manufacturing teams to in-process production problems and or on-going production problems and new product scale-up.
- Ensures maintenance of accurate, up-to-date laboratory notebook and project data files for historical analysis, record retrieval, customer support, etc.
- Contribute to various ongoing programs in safety, quality, regulatory and training.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date documentation related to current and future experimental products and development projects to protect our technical assets and maintain quality control (ISO) compliance.
- Working off-shift hours in production and pilot facilities for scale-ups and production issues will sometime be required without extra compensation. Depending on the circumstances, hours will sometimes be extended beyond a normal eight-hour shift.
Required skills and experience
- 2-5 years’ experience.
- Some travel to other allnex sites is required to support production issues and new product scale-up.
- Ability to effectively interface with production operators and supervisors, union and non-union.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in the field of science required, Master's degree a plus.
- Specialization in Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Polymers/ Coatings preferred.
- Computer literacy required and SAP experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Extended periods (majority of the normal workday) standing at the lab workbench and at the specific production site. Some sitting at the desk/ computer station.
- Lifting of 5 gallons pails of resin or paint.
- The ability to wear necessary and legislated safety equipment.
