Position overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Application Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the planning and execution of experiments, manufacturing composite parts, setting up machine parameters, preparing materials for testing, and conducting mechanical tests. The position requires strong attention to detail, creativity, and self-organization. The successful candidate will work closely with the team of chemists and engineers, contributing to the development of advanced composite materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing experiments related to composite materials and mechanical testing. 
  • Manufacture composite parts using various processing techniques. 
  • Set up and calibrate machines and equipment for testing and manufacturing processes. 
  • Prepare materials (e.g., resins and fibres) for testing and processing, ensuring proper handling and safety protocols. 
  • Conduct mechanical tests on composite materials, such as tensile, compression, and flexural tests, and report results accurately. 
  • Record and document experimental data, test results, and machine settings to maintain comprehensive and accurate records. 
  • Analyse test results and suggest improvements or adjustments to optimize processes. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. 
  • Collaborate with the team of chemists and engineers to troubleshoot and resolve any technical challenges. 
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute ideas for process improvement and innovation.    

Required skills and experience

  • Strong experience in composite part manufacturing and material testing. 
  • Experience in programming and operating a 6-axis robot is an added advantage. 
  • Competency in working with CAD programs e.g. Solid Works or similar. 
  • Ability to set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot machine parameters to ensure accurate results. 
  • Proficient in documenting experimental procedures, results, and observations with precision and clarity. 
  • Strong organizational skills with a proactive approach to managing tasks and timelines. 
  • Creative mindset for problem-solving and process optimization. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in both hands-on work and documentation. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in English combined with either French or Dutch is preferred. Knowledge of additional languages, such as German, is considered a strong asset. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical discipline (e.g., Industrial Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology) or equivalent combination of education and hands-on industry experience. 
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
