Position overview

We are looking for an analytical and synthesis chemist preferably with a polymer and coatings background. Main responsibilities of this role include operating, analyzing and maintaining analytical equipment including GC/MS, GPC and FTIR. The candidate would also be responsible for resin product synthesis in support of our Liquid Resins and Additives business unit.   • Collaborate with R&D team to perform testing and analysis of finished product, in-process samples and raw materials while conforming to all standard requirements in performance and documentation of analytical testing.
  • Analyze and interpret analytical data obtained to identify and implement solutions to problems.
  • Develop new procedures and techniques within established laboratory guidelines. 
  • Lab work may include analysis, synthesis and formulating and applications’ testing. This position is hands-on and consists largely of laboratory bench work. 
  • Responsible for reporting problems and potential problems that may adversely affect the operation of the Laboratory. 
  • Ensure successful transfer of new products recipe to mass production
  • Perform laboratory products testing in terms of process and product specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning and calibration of equipment used in the analytical lab.
  • Train other personnel in the proper use, calibration and maintenance of equipment and routine analytical techniques (sample prep. calculations).
  • Respond to customer inquiries appropriately and present information internally and externally in a professional manner.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and knowledge within areas of responsibility.
  • Carry out laboratory responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner in accordance to Good Laboratory Practice and through proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required skills and experience

  • 5-15 years of experience in the area of analytical testing or polymer synthesis.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including experience with GC/MS, FTIR, GPC and NMR.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with formulation, applications and raw materials for both water borne and solvent borne coatings.
  • Very good communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Strong results orientation.
  • Ability to multi task to balance work on multiple lab projects.
  • Ability to work individually and as a team player
  • Demonstrate integrity, honesty and reliability


  • Bachelors/ Masters in chemistry desired, other scientific disciplines and/ or equivalent technical experience may be considered.
