Process Engineer

Position overview

The Process Engineer proposes, organizes and implements work to complete projects and achieve group and individual objectives. The process engineer provides technical expertise and engineering knowledge on unit operations within the plant by properly accessing the process’ designs, evaluates improvements and implements the most cost-effective solution together with the operations team to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing capability and capacity to achieve safe and optimal process and equipment utilization.The Engineer demonstrates leadership, achieves quantifiable commercial results and provides guidance on technical matters.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and implement improvements in quality, reduced cost or enhanced operations.
  • Prepare documents required for process safety and equipment operations. These include: MOCs, and pre start up safety reviews.
  • Develop an understanding of the control systems used within assigned area.
  • Propose and implement programs in order to complete individual objectives as assigned, without direct supervision.
  • Develop and support chemical manufacturing trials and studies to prove process improvements, such as cycle time reductions, yield and quality improvements, new raw material introductions and waste minimization.
  • Prepare, test and analyze results of developmental resins to improve existing processes, recipes, equipment, materials and product line.
  • Manages safety issues related to Product Equipment Modifications and the introduction of new products and technologies.
  • Design, develop and implement process controls and automation projects involving automation systems and PC network technologies (DCS, PLC, Safety Systems, Data Acquisition systems).
  • Manage consultants, vendors and contractors in the preparation of detailed engineering plans and specifications for procurement and construction of capital assets.
  • Must be available by phone or for call-ins as needed to resolve equipment issues or assist with problems during off-hours.
  • Other duties as assigned


 

Required skills and experience
  • BS/MS in chemical engineering or engineering field 
  • 5+ years of experience in an industrial or, resin/paint development or, manufacturing field. Experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS system is highly desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in teams comprised of technical, production and maintenance personnel.
  • Excellent working knowledge of laboratory equipment and PC literacy.
