Position overview

As Project Engineer within the Engineering department at allnex in Drogenbos, you are part of a team of 5 to 10 members under the supervision of an Engineering Supervisor with as main purpose to implement a portfolio of investment projects to improve our chemical production facilities, utilities installations and general site infrastructure.

You study, design and implement projects to enhance reliability, safety, environment and health but also strategic projects to increase production capacity or to prepare the site for the future. In terms of CO2 emission, electricity and water consumption, we face important challenges to become a greener and more sustainable site.

A Project Engineer coordinates projects starting from a project idea up until the commissioning and closure step in which the installation is formally transferred to production and maintenance. A team of engineering specialists (piping, electrical and instrumentation, civil, process control) is assigned for every project and you have the responsibility to coordinate the team to complete the project within key deliverables such as timing and cost while ensuring good communication and cooperation with the project stakeholders and of course zero safety or environmental incidents. Ultimately you strive for full customer and stakeholder satisfaction by delivering an installation which meets the expectations!

The main accountability of a project engineer is to complete assigned projects within the defined timeline, within the established investment budget, and with the expected result/benefit. The project life cycle consists of different milestones for which a project engineer needs to fulfill key deliverables. This consists of:

  • Creation of a cost estimation through the different phases of budget request
  • Creation of a project schedule
  • Project design including the required design calculations or studies (basic and detailed engineering)
  • Risk analysis through Management of Change or Process Hazard Analysis (PHA or HAZOP)
  • Meetings with the key stakeholders of the project to finalize a project design.
  • Building the justification of a project (SHE, financial, reliability)
  • Coordination with Procurement for the purchasing phase
  • Piping and mechanical works
  • E&I works.
  • Process control modifications to the DCS system
  • Follow-up of the construction activities
  • Preparation of the requirements for project commissioning
  • Follow-up of the project after commissioning and implementation of corrective actions if required.
  • Closure of the project and transfer to maintenance.

Required skills and experience

  • Communication skills to discuss with key stakeholders and build justification for projects
  • Troubleshoot existing issues or define corrective actions after and during project commissioning.
  • Coordination skills to be responsible of a project team.
  • Able to find solutions to avoid budget overrun.
  • Able to find solutions to delivery issues for equipment and services which endanger the timely execution.
  • Must speak at least Dutch or French combined with English.

  • Master's degree in chemical or Electromechanical engineering.
  • Preference for someone with 2-5 years of experience in the field of Project Management in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical or Petrochemical industry with focus on building/modification of process installations.
